Steve Martin surprised Saturday Night Live guest host Alec Baldwin during the show’s season premiere by congratulating the 30 Rock star for beating his previously held hosting record.
Funnyman Baldwin made history on Saturday (24Sep11) when he fronted the U.S. comedy sketch programme for the 16th time, passing Martin’s 15 appearances – but the Father of the Bride star was gracious in defeat.
To the audience’s surprise, Steve made a guest appearance to join Alec on stage and kept the laughs rolling.
“I was just passing by the studio in full makeup and I heard that you were breaking my hosting record and while I am happy for you, I wanted to make sure that you were doing it without the use of steroids of performance enhancing drugs,” the comedian joked on stage during SNL’s 37th season premiere.
He later congratulated Baldwin on the honour and joined him to introduce the night’s talent, Radiohead.

Bruno Mars will have a song titled “Make it Rain” on the soundtrack of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1. After seeing the movie, he felt the song “fits.” The song, which is the lead single off the Twilight album, will debut on Tuesday. The full tracklist for the album will be available the day before.
Mars said the song will fit the series because the song is about “…the darker side of love. I think that pretty much sums it up.” Bruno watched the most of the movie to try and “catch the vibe feel of it.” Then he took to his guitar and started laying down a melody he couldn’t get out of his head.
He has no idea where the song will play in the film, but he’s okay with it “as long as it’s not after the credit, I hope it’s in a good scene!” he joked. As for being on what team, “Do I wear a Team Jacob shirt or a Team Edward shirt? You know what? I’m Team Bella all day,” he says.
